SOUTH HILL NEIGHBOURHOOD
Located just below the exquisite Forest Hill neighbourhood, South Hill possesses the same luxury and exclusivity. South Hill not only has some of the largest homes in Toronto, it is positioned near Toronto's business and entertainment districts, and is also conveniently located near many of Toronto's highly regarded public and private schools.

A hundred years after the first settlers came to the South Hill area in the mid-1700’s some of Toronto’s most influential and wealthiest people began to build among the largest Toronto homes. The Eaton family’s Ardworld, William McMaster’s Rathnelly, Samuel Nordheimer’s Glenedyth, and the two still celebrated today by thousands of tourists, James Austin’s Spadina House, and Henry Pellatt’s spectacular Gothic Revival castle on the hill, Casa Loma. Senator John Macdonald’s home, Oaklands, is now part of the De La Salle College Catholic school on Avenue Road.
Although South Hill is a small area, there are many homes in the area as impressive as Forest Hill, with styles ranging from Tudor, Georgian and Victorian. Even though most of the homes start at $700,000, there is also semi-detached and town homes, as well as duplexes and co-op buildings, at more accessible prices. The Avenue Road Hill is marked with iconic Art Deco apartment buildings; another landmark of the Hill is The Benvenuto, a large luxury condominium in the mid-century modern style, which also houses Scaramouche, one of Toronto’s best-rated restaurants, with its fabulous views out over the downtown city. The Avenue is a recently completed luxury condo at the corner of Avenue Road and St. Clair West.
South Hill lives up to its name with many hills and lookouts over the Nordheimer ravine, which cuts through the west side. Located here is Winston Churchill Park, with a jogging path, tennis courts, and a playground and wading pool. The Brown School on Avenue Road, which is also a community centre, has a swimming pool, tennis courts and a gym.
Schools in the area include Brown Jr. public school, Forest Hill Jr. and Sr. public school, Forest Hill Collegiate, North Toronto Collegiate, as well such private schools as Upper Canada College, Bishop Strachan, and the afore-mentioned Private/Catholic De La Salle College. The Avenue Road Arts School has many programs in the creative arts from toddler to adult.
Access to most of Toronto’s major downtown hospitals is minutes away via Avenue Road, as is the fine dining and upscale shopping of the Yorkville area.
With its lower profile than Forest Hill, South Hill remains a secret gem of a neighbourhood in central Toronto.
